Galt, Preston and Hespeler
Super Sprayers insulates homes, commercial buildings and industrial sites across Cambridge, with Hespeler only about 20 minutes from our shop in downtown Guelph via Highway 401 or Townline Road and Galt closer to half an hour. Since 2018 our certified crews have completed more than 800 insulation jobs, and Cambridge is one of the most varied cities we work in. It is really three historic towns in one, and each has its own kind of building and its own insulation problems.
Galt, Preston and Hespeler were separate communities until they merged, along with part of Blair, to form Cambridge in 1973. Galt grew along the Grand River with 19th-century stone and brick buildings. Preston sits where the Speed River meets the Grand, with older homes near the water, and Hespeler, the part of Cambridge closest to Guelph, has seen much of the city's newer residential growth along with the east end.
On top of that, Cambridge is one of the busiest industrial areas on the Highway 401 corridor, with plants, distribution buildings and warehouses that need condensation control and fireproofing. Galt's 19th-century stone and brick buildings along the Grand River have solid masonry walls that dry through the stone. Insulating them from inside makes the wall colder, so the plan has to protect the masonry. Our older and stone homes guide explains a safer upgrade order.
Homes near the Grand and Speed rivers can sit over high water tables, and parts of Galt remember the 1974 flood. Closed cell basement spray foam controls condensation and tolerates damp concrete, but it is not waterproofing. Drainage and leaks have to be fixed first.
Subdivisions in Hespeler and the east end bring the usual newer-home complaints of cold bonus rooms, drafty rim joists and builder-minimum attics. An attic air seal and top-up is often the best first step.
Cambridge's industrial areas along the 401, from the Hespeler Road interchange to the Franklin Boulevard and Fountain Street corridors, are full of plants and distribution buildings with steel roof decks. Those decks drip condensation onto product and equipment every spring and fall. Closed cell foam bonded to the deck stops it.

It will stop condensation, which causes a lot of basement dampness, but it won't stop liquid water. If water is coming through the walls or floor, that has to be fixed first.
Yes, carefully. We usually start with the attic, rim joists and basement, and approach stone walls with a moisture plan rather than simply spraying them.
